Dr. Xu obtained his degrees from Zhejiang University of Technology and Zhejiang University in China, and later conducted postdoctoral research with Professor Jianzhi Zhang at the University of Michigan, USA. His research primarily integrates computational and experimental approaches to investigate the biological significance of gene product diversity (i.e., RNA and proteins diversity), as well as its roles and mechanisms in environmental adaptation and human diseases. His areas of expertise include gene function and regulation, bioinformatics, comparative and evolutionary genomics, systems biology, pathogenic mycology, human diseases, omics big data, and machine learning. His work has been published in internationally renowned journals such as Cell Systems, PLoS Biology, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Cell Reports, and Nature Reviews Genetics. He serves as a reviewer for several journals including National Science Review, Nature Communications, Molecular Biology and Evolution, and etc., and is a youth editorial board member for Journal of Genetics and Genomics (JGG), Phenomics, Brain-X, and etc. He has led three projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and has played a key role in the Youth Program of the 2030 Brain Project for anxiety and depression.
